Modest Mouse — “Interstate 8”

I’ve always really liked this song, but now I’m being blown away by it, speakers full blast in my face.

He’s out stuck in a bird’s craw
                                         last night
Wildcat vomited his pattern on the snow.

Who refused to learn to dance, refused
To kiss you long ago. You fed him berries
But fled, the red stain on his teeth;
And when he cried, finding the world a Wheel—
                   you only stole his rice,
Being so small and gray. He will not go,
But wait through fish scale, shale dust, bone
                   of hawk and marmot,
                   caught leaves in ice,
Til flung on a new net of atoms;
Snagged in flight
Leave you hang and quiver like a gong

Your empty happy body
Swarming in the light

Otis Redding — “I Can’t Turn You Loose” and “Shake” (with Eric Burdon and Chris Farlowe)

YES. It really doesn’t get much better than Otis, unless it’s Otis and Eric Burdon.

Down By Law

“We can’t live in the present forever.”

Such a great film by Jarmusch, featuring both Tom Waits’ music and acting.

Sufjan Stevens — “Arnika”

In case you were unaware, there is a new Sufjan Stevens EP out and it’s pretty fun.

David Bromberg — “Sharon”

I received this record for free in a collection of about sixty all together. Before then, I had unfortunately never heard of David Bromberg. This album, Demon in Disguise is a solid, all encompassing mix of bluegrass, folk, country, blues and rock. Not to mention, this track, “Sharon”, was sampled by the Beastie Boys.
